Criteria
-Financial need: The United States Customs and Immigration Service (USCIS) provides fee waivers for any applicants at 150% poverty line and below. The Golden Door Foundation will aim to help people from 200% the annual federal poverty line and below.
-English Requirement: The immigration interview requires applicants to have a basic grasp of the English language. Therefore, in order to help those with the greatest possibility of passing, applicants must demonstrate a basic knowledge of the English language as part of the application process for the scholarship.
-Civics: To help applicants meet the basic understanding of the history of the United States and the operation of the government required by the USCIS, applicants who receive a scholarship from the Golden Door Foundation must enroll in and complete a U.S. civics class.
-Background Check: Applicants who have a criminal record or who have engaged in any offense falling under the USCIS good moral character section will not be eligible to receive a scholarship.
-Intangibles: All applicants must be gainfully employed and demonstrate their desire to better themselves and their community as well at their country.

The main financial support for the scholarship will come through donations and fundraising. If the amount of money raised each year is greater than that needed to meet the outlined goals, an investment fund will be started to ensure the longevity of the scholarship fund.
