We are proud to announce that in April, 2016 the Golden Door Foundation had the great pleasure of giving two scholarships to a very deserving couple.
Jose and Rosa Lovos moved to the United States in 2004 with their two children. Since moving, Jose and Rosa settled in Virginia and have welcomed a third child to their family. Mr. Lovos works hard as a maintenance worker, while Mrs. Lovos cares for their children, one of which needs full time care due to a disability.
While all three of the Lovos children are US Citizens, Rosa and Jose have not had the means to cover the cost of the citizenship application for themselves. The couple applied for a waiver from the USCIS but due to the competitive nature of the process, they did not have the greatest need and were unable to obtain a waiver. The Golden Door was able to offer these two hardworking individuals a scholarship to cover the costs of the citizenship application so that they could become US Citizens.
During the summer of 2016, both Mr. and Mrs. Lovos attended Citizenship classes to meet the requirements of the scholarship from Golden Door. Mr. Lovo passed his citizenship interview in October 2016. Mrs. Lovo had her citizenship exam in November 2016 and we are still waiting to learn her results.
We would like to give a special thanks to CASA for connecting Golden Door and the Lovos family to help make this opportunity a success!
